18 years ago, I experienced severe burnt out.

New Mum, newborn, new way of living, and wanted to have an online business. I created everything overnight and MORE sleep deprived and my body was not support to have post – partum healing. Less breast milk, mum guilt, no time, and I “should” do this and that ….. self – blame and no one support and holding space because “I am not suppose to do it”, ” trust me, it wont work” that was what was shared with me.

At the end, I burnt out and I closed my business and back to 9-5 job and never looked back again because ” I am not for that”.

Fast forward, I was initiated to soul healing and awakenings. I started to understand my body system and multidimensional systes work within and without and around my field. I master it.

3 years ago, my life changed 360 degree.

It is not a mid life crisis at all but Mid – life transformation.

I have been connected to many entrepreneurial mothers in June & July including my own mother. The most resilient entrepreneurial mothers aren’t those who never experience burnout; they’re the ones who recognise it as misalignment rather than personal inadequacy.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially after talking to a few of mums who built a thriving business over number of years, only to find herself juggling and feeling imbalance.

“I invested everything into creating something meaningful but now I dread the very work I thought would fulfill me.”

A lot of statistics abound showing the disproportionate burnout rates among working mothers—they experience more workplace exhaustion than their male counterparts, with maternal burnout significantly exceeding paternal burnout.

“It is ok, I can hold it”

” it is ok, I can push it”

“It is ok, it is normal”

A few of these simple responses it creates a huge blocks and stuck and stagnant on our women’s body PLUS on top of burn out!

What these statistics fail to capture, however, is the unique psychological weight of burning out on work that was meant to be purposeful.

Burning out on your purpose carries a distinctive shame.

When exhaustion stems from a job you dislike, external factors provide convenient scapegoats. But when burnout strikes work you deliberately chose, work you built, work intended to fulfill you? That experience manifests as profound personal failure.

The guilt intensifies the exhaustion. Your internal dialogue becomes punishing:

“I should feel grateful for this opportunity.”

“Others would envy my challenges.”

“If I can’t manage this, perhaps I’m unsuited for both entrepreneurship AND motherhood.”

Burnout represents “a prolonged response to chronic interpersonal stressors on the job.” For entrepreneurial mothers, these stressors often remain invisible because externally, they resemble success.

These hidden stressors include:

• Decision fatigue from shouldering every choice

• Constant performance pressure as your business’s public face

• Isolation inherent in being your own authority

• The impossible expectation of maintaining 24/7 passion for your work

How About Our Brain?

A brain experiencing burnout literally cannot connect with purpose as a healthy brain does. During chronic stress, the prefrontal cortex—responsible for meaning-making and future planning—effectively goes offline. The limbic system assumes control, focused exclusively on survival mechanisms.

This explains why everything seems meaningless during burnout, even work you genuinely value.

Your purpose hasn’t vanished—your brain has temporarily lost its capacity to access it.

From here, I invite you to fundamentally reframe our understanding of burnout?

Rather than viewing it as failure, what if burnout represents your internal compass recalibrating?

Burnout is your intuition communicating: “The systems you’ve established no longer align with the person you’re becoming.”

The most adaptable entrepreneurial mothers I know don’t avoid burnout—they simply become more adept at recognising it early and treating it as valuable feedback.

Focus on Purpose As Compass, Not Destination

We’re conditioned to believe that purpose emerges once through profound introspection or revelation, remaining constant thereafter. For entrepreneurial mothers, however, purpose evolves through distinct seasons.

Sometimes purpose manifests as building: creating something new, solving problems, demonstrating possibilities.

Sometimes purpose centers on sustaining: maintaining what you’ve built, serving clients effectively, ensuring operational continuity.

Sometimes purpose involves reimagining: dismantling what no longer functions and constructing something entirely different.

Each manifestation holds validity and purpose. Each requires different energy, systems, and success metrics.

If this is something you are keen to explore, I invite you to connect with me to realign and harmonise of all above.
